Training Tips
Running is the final stage of your first triathlon. Since there is not too much to running, it also can be subject to paralysis analysis. But it is a good idea to practice a few fundamental running techniques to avoid injury.
• Get good running shoes
• Run with your head up and level
• Run at a comfortable pace
• Don’t push injuries. Take time to rest.
If you are already a runner great, you can skip this part. If you are just starting out running then these tips may help you get started.
• When first starting out, run for a few minutes then walk. Then run
again. Keep this up until you can run for a sustained distance
without stopping
• Try running in intervals – Interval training involves running quick
sprints (usually about 50 yards then resting)
• Try to run 2 to 3 times per week. Consistency is pure and simple the
most important aspect in your trainig. More important that
technique. More important than gear. You must have a REGULAR
training schedule.
Here is a great resource for both the beginner and pro endurance runner. I had the opportunity to work with Dean Karnazas a few years ago. Dean, also known as the Ultramarathon Man is an uber, super athlete who competes in some of the most grueling and intense runs on the planets. Things like running across the Sahara desert or running in Antartica. Sign up for his newsletter for some great tips.
